ERL Round 3 - The 1000' Miles of Road Atlanta. Formula Racing Team made the long trip from Europe to Atlanta, Georgia in the USA to compete in Round 3 of the ERL Lemans Series. With just the number 88 Audi R10 entered for this round and a hard battle for us at his demanding track to defend our 2nd place position in the series.

Road Atlanta is one of the teams least favourite tracks, a very tight, narrow circuit makes passing very difficult, and with such a tight battle between the top teams in the championship this event was going to be a real hard trip for team FRO drivers Ian Mills and Robert Fakes.

A lot of practise finally unlocked the set up and car balance we where looking for and by Qualification, FRO had 3 drivers in the top 10 times, with Ian Mill's taking the 3rd place on the grid. For this event, we where more than happy with this position. FRO's strategy going into the round was simply to focus on getting to the chequered flag, defending the point's situation before we hit the faster, flowing tracks of the 2nd half of the season. In addition, the number 88 car carried a penalty into this round, with the car taking a drive through penalty in the first laps, we would immediately be going a lap down.

Once the race started and the number 88 FRO Audi had cleared the penalty, the driver pairing of Ian Mill's and Robert Fakes showed they had the outright pace to get back to the lead laps. The pair settling into the long near 400 laps race cutting through the traffic and gaining the positions to carry us back up the points table. Although the first half of the race would not go totally smoothly with a accident meaning the pit crew had to go to work fast to replace the front splitter on the number 88. However, road Atlanta is one tough event, the narrow track and no run off means errors are costly and those costly mistakes started to effect our competitors from the half way point of the race. With the Dueces Audi and Nexus 6 Racing Pescarolo tangling and sustaining damage we where able to get back to the front of the points chase.
